It was the early 1970's when I visited PittyPat's Porch. The Address then was 25 Cain Street NW. Supper consisted of Relishes, Soup, Entree, Vegetables, Hot Breads, dessert and the beverage. The menu was printed on a hand held fan which you got to keep as a souvenir. First course was the The Relishes ("we don't like to say appetizers as the yankees do"), then the Soup which is the same kind General Lee loved so much ("Pittypat got the recipe from his wife.") The Entree choices were the Hunters Sampler of Venison & Buffalo, Pheasant, Georgia Quail, Duckling, Filet Mignon, Jambalaya, and CarpetBagger Steak. The Drinks were Mint Julep, Pittypat's Pitch, Scarlet, Ankle Breaker ("General Jackson broke his ankle after half a dozen of them") and the Mug of Cider. The menu claimed - "If you drink three times in three minutes from any three of Pittypat's collection of potions, ya'll will keep on lovin' till you die."
I have not been able to get back to Atlanta to enjoy this great establishment again. But the Fan, is on my desk to this day as a reminder of the great food and hospitality you can only find in a true Southern kitchen.
I will be mailing you the Fan, so you can also reminisce about the old days and laugh at the pricing on the menu.
Thank you for such a memorable experience, some 30 odd years later.
